Quick legislative update,

1. Good news is our Cancer Bill is out of legislative services and ready for me to pick up tomorrow. It will start in the Senate and we have really good support. I am going to guess that it will be in committee next week.

2. Bad news! I attached a Bill that Steve Harris from Meridian is running. Please look it over. The really bad news is the Teachers really like this Bill and have been working under it the last year. I think that it is one step closer to loosing Collective Barging.

I told Harris that we strongly oppose it. The Chiefs have yet to make a decision on it.  I really believe the cities have more to fear than us as far as a state level. I know that some locals will have problems. I am building a talking sheet as to

the cons. My initial argument is that the system we have now is not broken. Not only that but how unproductive is a contract meeting with the media, firefighters, and haters all in one room making comments on our wages and working conditions. It is a disaster waiting to happen!

3. We are supporting the Labor movement in the Minimum wage increase . I have been in contact with the group running the Bill and am stoked to see it moving. It will get a Senate hearing. I have really been excited to see our partnership grow with Labor in the State. They

are always willing to help and I told them that we would as well. I do plan on attending their hearing and standing up supporting the minimum wage increase on behalf of the PFFI.

4. Please forward to your Local Presidents to keep them in the loop. I will send out an update after I get a date for our Senate hearing.

Fraternally,

Rob Shoplock

Please make sure your Local is back in the AFL/CIO we need to be 100% by convention
