DFF Charitable Foundation Chili Cook-Off

On Friday, February 22, 2019 MYC will be hosting thier 3rd annual chili cook-off from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Fire Fighter Events Center at 12 Lakeside Lane. All proceeds will go to the Denver Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation. If you are interested in entering a crockpot of red or green chili, please contact Evan Soibelman (T-31-B) as soon as possible.

This Friday, February 22, 2019 MYC will be hosting their 3rd annual chili cook-off from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Fire Fighter Event Center at 12 Lakeside Lane. All proceeds go towards the Denver Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation. You can enter a crockpot of red or green chili for $15 and also participate in a silent auction.

Highway 85 Structure Fire

At 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, several 911 callers reported a house on fire at 9442 N. Highway 85 in Douglas County. First arriving Battalion Chief 1 reported smoke showing from the 2nd floor of a small, single family home and confirmed with the occupants that everyone had safely evacuated without injuries. The area doesn’t have fire hydrants, so a large response included Tenders to truck large volumes of water to the scene.

Metro-Dade Firefighters Local 1403 regrets to announce the passing of Retired FF William B. McMullen 2/11/2019. Bill was hired with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue on 7/26/76 & retired 7/31/2006. Most of our brother & sister firefighters know him from Battalion 2 where he served proudly. He was 71 years old. Please keep his family & friends in your thoughts and prayers.

He is collecting data related to secondary/cross-contamination from not being deconned before walking back into our houses, the toxic dust on our skin, hair, boots, ect.

Lynn Firefighters Day To all Lynn Firefighters past and present, Happy Lynn Firefighters Day. Lynn Firefighters Day was established by the Lynn City Council following a fire at City Box 41 on February 13, 1895 at Hutchinson Block Hardware on Munroe Street where four Lynn Firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice.

2nd Alarm Fire: 70 Farmington Ave
02/12/19 - New London Fire Fighters
On Monday morning 02/11/2019 the NLFD responded to a report of smoke in the building in 70 Farmington Ave Apartments. On arrival, crews found flames coming from two windows on the 4th floor. A second alarm was called due to the large number of occupancies in the apartments that needed help exiting the building. The NLFD had the fire knocked down under 15 minutes from arrival.

This year the Connecticut AFL-CIO Health and Safety Committee is offering a scholarship essay contest to inspire Connecticut high school seniors to think about the importance of workplace health and safety, of the consequences that arise when workers are forced to toil in unsafe working conditions and of the role that organized labor has played in protecting workers both in the past and present.

Congratulations to Noblesvilel member Captain Joel Musselman.  On February 2, 2019, Brother Musselman retired with 34 years of service at NFD.  IAFF Local 4416 Executive Board designated Captain Musselman Emeritus At-Large Trustee for his strong comitment to the members of the IAFF, his example as a trade unionist and five terms as Trustee for Local 4416.

February 3-9, 2019 is Burn Awareness Week. Children under 5 are more likely to suffer burn injuries than any other age group. Hot liquid burns, or scalds, are the leading cause of burns to children under five and to seniors over 65. This year’s theme from the American Burn Association is “It Can Happen in a Flash with a Splash”.
